New Experiment

We have a saying, "everything is an experiment." This is just that.

For those that are just joining us, this blog is our virtual meeting place to share ideas on how we can use creative ideas to (1) engage the local community (2) promote Eikon (3) enhance our gatherings.

That is what this space is for. To be free to share what you think, to be able to look back and see the movement in our ideas, to motivate one another to constantly push the envelope, and most importantly, to use one another as a catalyst for spiritual growth and impact in the community.

Below are the ideas that have been shared thus far in our monthly meetings. Post a comment, add your own thoughts to the idea. Pass this on to friends that may want to contribute. Post new ideas if you have one.

To stay on top of this, each of you will be emailed when a post is made. Put this blog on your bookmark toolbar, make it a routine check-up.

If you'd like to post a video, have a great idea but not sure how to develop it, share a great website, write a quote, go for it.

Let the ideas begin.

Studio - "Spoken Word"

Here's an example:

Sophia is all over this, but all ideas are welcome in terms of what scripture or topics to use for this.

This is going in a comedic direction, but just another broad idea of what we're looking at:

Studio - "The Question you've always wanted to ask in Church"

I think this is about giving people a voice, an obvious theme permeating popular culture these days. It's fair, we all want to be heard in some capacity. With an issue so personal as faith and spiritual issues can be, offering opportunities to have a "voice" is pretty essential.

Any questions you can think of? We need several. No question is a dumb question. This is fair game.

Studio - "My Eikon"

Taking people from Eikon and having them share what they have done to take ownership of their Church.

Is that accurate Mike?

Studio - "Devil and the Apprentice"

Mike is back with his new sidekick, D-train. Strap on your extra small t-shirt Darrin.

I was sharing with Mike and Darren, I think this idea of an "anti-message" is a unique way to promote Eikon. The idea is obviously not original, but I'm not sure I've seen this type of promotion before.

I was sitting in Teviot the other day at Edin. Uni and saw the television on with local adverts and pictured Darren and Mike up there on screen. I imagined students having this "WTF" moment, wondering what it was all about. In the marketing world, it's called a "purple cow", something that will turn there heads. I think these characters have the potential to do such a thing.

The Studio would thus be a great way to introduce these characters.

Any ideas on what they would be saying to one another?

Idea - "Connectivity"

Something brought out by Sophia in response to embracing not only our diversity, but our commonalities.
We embrace the diversity of ideas, of our world views, experiences.

A great quote I came across a long time ago that has resonated with me:

"In the essentials, unity; in the non-essentials, liberty; in all things, charity."

The idea behind "connectivity" is to use a short story that focuses on a particular theme (whether it be on forgiveness, servanthood, etc.) Each person (7 or 8) will share a bit of the story with the transitions taking place in the middle of a sentence. It would be seemless, celebrate interelation in the body of Christ and deliver a message.

I like this one, it could work well, I have it in my head.

Any other ideas behind this?

Idea - "Pilgrims Progress"

Mark had a drama concept.

Could you post some more detailed thoughts on this Mark and we could bash around some ideas to this?

Idea - "Guess Who?"

Great idea by Mike. People on the street will give replies to specific questions, audience must guest what the question was.

some potential topics to ask:
*Scottish Independence
*Parliament Building
*How do you take your coffee
*What do you think of Christians
*Where do you go to find answers to spiritual questions

We need more questions.....thoughts?

Idea - "Behind the Artist"

Specifically showing this at Open Mic, it's a chance to get connected to some of the worlds the artists that perform at the Open Mic are involved with.

Darren is heading this up. We are looking to have a few short films of artists throughout our next Open Mic in May.

Any other ideas for Open Mic Night?

Idea - "A day in the life of"

Personal bio's on people that are involved at Eikon.

Some initial names:
Kyle, Andy, Yvonne, Claire, Allen, New College Crew.

I'll set up a schedule and let you know via this blog when people will be filmed.

Any other names?

Suggestions on questions to ask them?

Idea - "Multi-dimensional Poetry Reading"

Sophia suggested this great thought. We'll use scripture, stories, or poetry to be read aloud with a "chorus" of voices throughout the group. This is great for adding texture and color to our gathering.

Sophia, any thoughts on where you are going to take this?

Anyone else want to chime in?

Idea - "Getting to Know Eikon"

Some of the current themes are:

*set-up crew
*open mic
*the forest cafe/front entrance/recycling
*mobile phones

additional ideas?
